- July 15, 2008, What Do I Own, and What Owns Me? by George Gugle
“ANOTHER second collection this week?” We’re all feeling the burn from $4-a-gallon gas and all the other things that have gotten more expensive lately...so how do we balance the need to pay our bills with our obligation to help those less fortunate with our desire to have our choice of PS3, Wii, or Xbox 360 when we get home every night? George Gugle, Associate Director of Stewardship for the Diocese of Columbus, will have some tips.

- August 19, 2008, Mass Confusion: What Do I Say? When Do I Kneel? by Deacon Tom Johnston
Have you ever looked around during Mass and suddenly realized you’re the only one standing? Do you sometimes mumble your responses, because you’re not really sure what you’re supposed to be saying, or what it means? You’re not alone! No matter how many days, weeks, months, or years we’ve been going to Mass, we all can use a reminder of what we’re doing now and then. Deacon Tom Johnston will lead us on a guided tour of the Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral (212 East Broad Street) at 7:30—you can still meet us at Gresso’s at 6 for dinner beforehand, or just join us for the tour!

- September 16, 2008, A Seminarian, a Nun, a Priest, a Married Couple, and an Expert on Marriage Walked Into a Bar... by Discussion Panel
It’s no joke—everyone has a vocation! Some of us are called to be priests or religious, some are called to be husbands, wives, and parents, and some of us have other callings. Do you know what yours is? Tonight’s panelists will tell you how they found their place in the world and give you some thoughts on where you can find yours. We’ll hear from Sister Rita Jane, Fr. Jeff from the Vocations Office, Stephanie Jenemann from the Marriage and Family Life Office, and some other special guests —and there will be plenty of time for your questions!
- October 21, 2008, Social Concerns and Political Responsibility: Not Just Every 4 Years by Jerry Freewalt
There’s an election coming up—perhaps you’ve heard? But even if there weren’t, you have a responsibility to know what’s going on and to help make the world a better place. Sometimes there’s so much information out there that it’s hard to know where to start. Jerry Freewalt of the Diocesan Office of Social Concerns will help us to figure out our responsibility as Catholic voters and citizens to make sure our voices are heard.

- November 18, 2008, Poverty: One Word, So Many Meanings by Fr. Kevin F. Lutz
We talked earlier this season about consumerism, and how focusing too much on “stuff” might not be the best idea. But what about those people who have nothing? Poverty is a daily problem for those among us who don’t have enough to eat, a place to stay, or warm clothes. But on the other hand, people entering religious life often take a vow of poverty, and Jesus said “blessed are the poor…” - was He talking about the same thing? Fr. Kevin Lutz, pastor of Holy Family Parish in Columbus, will talk about this complex concept.
About Fr. Kevin F. Lutz: Father Kevin is pastor of Holy Family Parish in the downtown area of Columbus and is founder and curator of the Jubilee Museum at Holy Family.
